Building Bonds Beyond the Boardroom

Where Health, Teamwork, and Community Intersect in Canada’s Cybersecurity Realm

The Cyber Community Cricket League is a groundbreaking initiative tailored for the cyber security community’s directors and above in Canada. This league aims to foster a unique blend of health, wellness, teamwork, and community building through the popular sport of cricket.

What is Cricket?

Cricket is one of the oldest and most culturally diverse games in the world. The ultimate battle of precision, finesse and endurance, countries from all over the world have built rich and meaningful histories inside the boundaries of this beautiful game.

Now, we aim to bring the competitive and cooperative spirit of this sport to our community of the best and brightest cybersecurity minds in the country.

Journey with us onto the cricket pitch and face off against your peers in this unique, first of its kind arena!

Cricket is a bat and ball sport played between two teams of 11 players each. The defensive team, or the team that is ‘bowling,’ will have a bowler, a wicket keeper and nine fielders placed around the field.

The batting team will send out two two batsmen to begin their innings and each batter will play until they are out.

Each batter is placed on one side of the pitch, across from each other. A run in cricket is scored each time the two batters are able to successfully cross the pitch to the other side. If a batter strikes the ball and is then able to run back and forth across the pitch twice, it will constitute two runs scored. Batters may also score 4 runs at a time if they are able to hit the ball hard enough to cross the boundary of the field, or 6 runs at a time if they are able to cross the boundary without the ball ever touching the ground.

The bowling team can get an out on a batter in several ways. The bowler can throw the ball past the batter and directly into the wickets (also known as stumps) to get an out. If the ball directly hits the batter’s leg in line with the wickets, or if the ball deflects off the bat into the wickets, both of those also constitute outs. Finally, batters can be caught out if any ball connecting with their bat is caught by one of the fielders, or run out, if a fielder manages to knock the wickets with the ball at any point where the batter is not occupying their own crease on the pitch.

Once a batter is out, the batting team sends out a new batter to take their place. Since two batters must be on the pitch at all times, once 10 of the 11 batters are called out, the batting team’s innings are over and they must switch to bowling as the fielding team then takes the strike.
